A Clinical and Mycological Study for Superficial Fungal Diseases(¥´)

Abstract
Authors performed a clinical and mycological study for superficial fungal diseases on 2,554 out-patients who had visited Department of Dermatology, University Hospital and Yongsan Hospital, College of Medicine, Chung Ang University from July, 1985 to June, 1987.
The results were as follows:
1) The incidence of superficial fungal diseases to total number of out-patients(15,162) was 16.8%(2,554 cases). 2) Superficial fungal diseases showed high incidence in third(29.0%) and fourth decade(22.5%).
3) The ratio of male to female was 1.95:1(1,689:865). Tinea cruris, whose ratio of male to female was 23.7:1,
was the most prominent in male.
4) The monthly prevalence of superficial fungal diseases was high in July(14.9%), August(14.3%), and June(11.3%).
5) The incidence of superficial fungal diseases were Tinea(T.) pedis(35.0%), T. cruris(25.2%), T. versicolor(10.5%),
T. corporis(8.6%), Candidiasis(8.2%), Onychomycosis(6.2%), T. manus(5.3%), and T. capitis (1.0%).
6) Coexisting fungal infections were found in 516 patients(20.0%), and the case of T. pedis with Onychomycosis was the most common.
7) The positive rate of KOH scraping was 66.8%, and the positive rate of culture on ordinary Sabouraud¢¥s dextrose agar media was 46.5%.
8) Trichophyton rubrum(38.0%), Candida albicans(34.5%), Trichophyton mentagrophytes(24.4%), Epidermophyton floccosum(1.4%), Microsporum canis(1.3%), and Trichophyton ferrugineum(0.4%) were isolated in order of frequency respectively in superficial fungal diseases.
